Air is lazy — it takes the shortest, easiest path. Rooms close to the air handler get blasted; rooms at the end of long, skinny, bend-filled runs get a whisper. Many Vegas tract homes were built with duct layouts drawn for speed, not balance, so the far bedroom was losing this fight the day the house was finished.
Your thermostat only knows the temperature of the hallway it lives in. Once that hallway hits the setpoint, the system shuts off — no matter what the west-facing bedroom is doing. That’s why the “fix” of cranking the thermostat down just freezes half the house to make one room livable.
A single crushed flex duct or a disconnected branch in the attic can cut one room’s airflow in half while every other room feels fine. This is the most common cause we find when one room got worse over time rather than being bad since day one. It’s also why weak airflow at a single vent is a clue worth taking seriously.
West-facing windows, bonus rooms over garages, rooms under low-insulation attic sections — these carry double the heat load of the room next door, but usually got the same six-inch duct. In Vegas sun, that mismatch is a 5–10 degree difference every afternoon.
