Vegas Homeowner Guide

Your Solar Company Disappeared — Who Takes Care of Your Panels Now?

Your solar installer stopped answering the phone — or vanished entirely? You own what the industry calls an “orphaned” system, and in Las Vegas you have plenty of company. The panels almost certainly still work, and your equipment warranties likely survived.
The Short Answer

The orphaned-solar problem comes down to four realities.

01

Solar companies vanish — a lot

02

A system nobody's watching can fail silently

03

The desert is physically attacking the system

04

Your warranties probably survived — but they're split in pieces

The Diagnosis

Why It Happens in Vegas Homes

These four causes account for most calls like this we run across the Las Vegas Valley – Summerlin, Henderson, Spring Valley, and everywhere in between.

CAUSE 01

Solar companies vanish — a lot

The solar industry runs on a boom-and-bust cycle, and Nevada has watched wave after wave of installers — including big national names — shut down, exit the state, or dissolve into new entities. The panels they installed are built to last 25+ years. The companies often aren’t. When yours goes, the workmanship warranty and the service relationship usually go with it.

CAUSE 02

A system nobody's watching can fail silently

Solar doesn’t fail loudly. An inverter faults, a breaker trips, monitoring stops reporting — and the house keeps running, silently pulling everything from the grid instead. The first symptom most orphaned-solar owners notice is a power bill that’s crept back up to pre-solar levels. If your monitoring app has been dead for months, you don’t actually know whether your system is producing at all.

CAUSE 03

The desert is physically attacking the system

Vegas rooftops are a hostile environment: UV and 160° roof heat cook wiring insulation and connectors, and pigeons — the Valley’s great solar menace — nest under panels, chew wiring, and pile debris that traps heat and droppings against your roof. None of this shows from the ground, and on an orphaned system, nobody has looked in years.

CAUSE 04

Your warranties probably survived — but they're split in pieces

Panel and inverter warranties come from the manufacturers, not the installer, and typically survive an installer’s death — 25 years on panels, 10–12 on inverters is common. What died with your installer is the workmanship warranty (the roof penetrations, wiring, and mounting) and any service plan. Knowing which piece of paper covers which failure is half the battle when something breaks.

Our Process

How Bob’s Repair Solves It

Four steps. You see the diagnosis before we quote, and the quote before we touch a tool.

On-site diagnosis

We diagnose on-site, photograph what we find, and walk you through it before we recommend a single repair.

Written quote in your hand

Every part and labor line itemized before we start. If we find something extra mid-job, we stop and call you before adding a dollar.

Targeted repair

We fix the part that's failing. If a $40 capacitor solves it, that's the job — not a $1,200 replacement you didn't need.

Tested before we leave

We run the system, take a reading, and confirm the symptom that brought us out is gone. If it isn't, we stay and keep working.

What happens when your solar stops producing and the company that installed it no longer exists? In this video, Bob's Repair takes over an orphaned Las Vegas system, traces the fault to a failed inverter, and swaps it out to get the panels making power again. The hardware outlives the companies that sell it — someone local still has to service it.

Pigeons Are DESTROYING Your Solar Panels! (Hidden Damage)

What's living under your solar panels? In most Las Vegas installs, pigeons — and their droppings corrode the wiring, stain the roof, cut output, and can void the panel warranty. In this video, Bob's Repair shows the damage underneath and fits a humane steel mesh barrier that closes the gap without touching the panels or the warranty.

The Most IMPORTANT Part of a Solar Install (That You'll Never See)

What actually decides whether a solar system lasts 25 years? Not the panels — it's the mounting rails and micro-inverters underneath them, the part no homeowner ever sees. In this video, Bob's Repair goes behind the scenes of a Las Vegas install to show the racking and wiring their own crews do in-house, with no subcontractors on the roof.
