Summer AC Tune-Up and Electrical Repair in Las Vegas

We performed a summer tune-up and system diagnostic on a rooftop unit in Las Vegas as part of a Bob’s Family Plan maintenance visit. While onsite, we found and addressed two failing components that could’ve left this customer sweating in the peak of summer. Our technician completed necessary electrical repairs, verified refrigerant pressures, and left the system ready for the months ahead.

What We Found

During our multi-point inspection, we identified a failing dual capacitor and a degraded contactor. The capacitor was reading just over 50 MFD, out of tolerance for the 55+5 rating, and was no longer delivering consistent power to the motor. The contactor also showed signs of wear and pitting, with electrical resistance readings outside the safe range. Additionally, our diagnostic tools showed acceptable refrigerant pressures for an R-22 system, but noted a lack of temperature probes connected, limiting full superheat/subcooling verification.

How We Fixed It

We replaced the faulty 440/55+5 capacitor with a new, high-quality component and installed a new 1-pole contactor to ensure safe electrical switching. After installation, we confirmed amperage draw, voltage stability, and compressor performance—all operating within spec. A visual inspection of coils, wiring, and the control board was completed, and the unit was cycled to confirm reliable cooling operation.

🚀 The Result

This system is now operating safely and efficiently for the summer ahead. Electrical reliability has been restored, and the unit is drawing proper amperage with balanced refrigerant pressure. These minor but critical fixes prevented a potential mid-season breakdown, saving the homeowner time, money, and discomfort. We reminded the homeowner of their Bob’s Family Plan benefits and confirmed their membership remains active for continued seasonal coverage.
